Having a unique business card is ultimately one of the best and easiest things you can do to stick out in a person's memory, purse, or briefcase. It's a way of differentiating yourself from the crowd and/or their collection of business cards. I have always been a fan of the crazy ideas that people have used such as translucent cards, credit card lookalikes, and even a foldable card that looks like a one hundred dollar bill. You don't necessarily need to go this far from the norm to stand out though. It usually just takes a bright design or catchy header to grab attention. I'll try to cover a few things below that can help you make your business card stand out.

Your first tool is information. If you can grab their attention with a catchy phrase, tip, or even question, you are usually ahead of the game. For example, I've seen mortgage brokers a business card that had "The #1 mortgage shoppers make" on the back. Below the mistake it said "Contact me for a free brochure about the rest of the mistakes."  He told me that he had great results with his unique card and that after his last tradeshow he actually got more calls about the list of mistakes than direct inquiries. This is really only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what you can do with questions and information. Use your imagination to hook your prospects!

The next method of standing out is simply having a unique business card design. Using bright colors, abstract shapes, and even color fading gradients are just a few of the ways you can mix up your business cards design. Another simple yet effective trick is to have a eye catching picture or graphic on the backside of your card. Obviously, use a picture that that is related to your business our industry but try to find something that will really leave an impression. Anything like this that you can do differently will make it much easier for them to remember you. The goal is to get them to associate meeting you with the different and unique card design. Not only does this assist them in remembering but it will usually re-assure them that you're not afraid to innovate and maybe even consider you a "go getter." Enough about the psychology behind unique card designs though. I suggest writing out notes on ideas for business cards before just jumping in. Spend a few days brainstorming unique designs and techniques and then put it into action. Remember, creativity is key in all aspects of your business cards design!
